Really enjoy this podcast. Jay and Ben take their time and look at every detail of the Harry Potter series. If you’re looking for a fun deep dive into Harry Potter, this is for you. I find myself laughing along with them, as I remember all the moments of the series that made me laugh growing up. I look forward to the new episode each week. I hope to catch one of their tour shows in February.

I have a theory for the Carlin bros: what is Arther Weasley was a failed aurour? You all have pointed out that he has a very limited, while enthusiast, knowledge of muggles that points to the fact he probably didn’t take Muggle studies while at Hogwarts. But he’s very talented at resolving complex curses and identifying the dark arts. Maybe he was training to be an aurour but wasn’t able to make it through the post Hogwarts testing or didn’t have the right connections to be taken seriously. (Not in the Slug club) But Dumbledore knew of his skill and talents which is why he was invited quickly into the order of the phoenix, and he was trusted to watch Harry. Just a fun idea I thought about after the Kat’s episode.

Please keep up the amazing job!

Hey brother! Thank you for doing this chapter-by-chapter, week-by-week podcast. It has been so much fun to relive these stories in a book club format.

I’ve been thinking about the time turner shenanigans, and there’s a few threads I want to tug on.

1…When Dumbledore tells Harry and Hermione, “If all goes well, you could save one innocent life tonight,” I wonder if he is realizing in that very moment that it was their future selves who saved Buckbeak. Dumbledore already knows Buckbeak escaped, and his behavior at Hagrid’s suggests he thought the trio might be up to something. Dumbledore’s suspicion was mostly correct, except that it wasn’t the present Harry and Hermione, but their future selves. This realization could explain why he’s so vague. You could read that line particular line as if he’s having the “ah ha” moment as he is saying it.

2…When Harry and Hermione go back in time, it describes them as moving backward. I think they are moving backward through time AND space, retracing their movements. Right when they land in the entrance hall, Hermione automatically suspects that they are hearing themselves walking down the hall. Landing near your past self, while risky, would help you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing at that time.

3…Does the map show both versions of a person who is using the time turner?

I love the podcast, I feel as if I’m reading the series for the first time as you comb through every detail and share such wise, poignant, and hilarious insight!

My question isn’t so much a question as an invitation for you guys to talk about the very heartfelt way that Dumbledore knew and Trusted hagrid in such a way that he had HAGRID go pick Harry up from the ruins of his home and care for him a whole day, and then 10 years later Dumbledore has Hagrid introduce Harry to their world, and through this giving Harry that emotional connection from an adult he’s been missing all his life. Yup im crying.

Hey Brothers! Thank you so much for this podcast and all of your content! I truly love the long episodes and hope you don’t split up chapters in the future (but understand why you might). All of your projects have truly helped me during some dark times and love that you have created a safe space many of us to enjoy the fandoms. You have taught me how to look at things from so many angles and every time I re-read/listen tot he HP books, I try to gleam something new and think about one of your theories and apply it hard to the read through to see how it can change different moments.

I’ve been wondering about how Slughorn modified his memory. I always thought that when a memory is put into the pensieve it is no longer in the owners head (hence why Snape did this during occlumency lessons), but Slughorn still has the memory? So he duplicated this memory? And also, how did he modify the memory? In his head before he gave it to Dumbledore? After he removed it but before giving it to Dumbledore? If he truly wanted to hide the memory, why didn’t he just obliviate himself? Did he just use obliviate on the single memory?

Curious for your thoughts. Again thank you for all you do!
