Two days after Christmas, 2011, Russ Faria came home from game night to find his wife, Betsy, dead. He was soon charged and convicted of her murder. But Russ Faria insisted he did not kill his wife. Betsy’s brutal murder set off a chain of events that would leave one man dead, another man implicated, and expose a diabolical scheme. It would also see Dateline NBC—the true-crime original—become a part of the never-ending saga that proves the old adage: Truth is stranger than fiction. This original series from Keith Morrison and Dateline defies all expectations. Riveting story of a woman so horrible it’s hard to believe she’s real. I couldn’t stop listening.
I saw the show when it aired last year and was hooked in from the very 1st episode. Pam Hupp……. I don’t know what to say! She is definitely the TRUE definition of a narcissist individual that will do anything for money. This whole case is so very sad; not just for Betsy but her entire family as well as Pam’s family. And the way she (Pam) treated her own daughter was absolutely horrendous! Pam Hupp is DEFINITELY where she needs to be, she ran a good game on law enforcement as well as the DA and I’m glad she was found out to be what she actually is before someone else got hurt.
The absolute craziness of this case is completely mind boggling. It’s impossible to tear away from it once you start. And just when you think it cannot get any more bizarre, it does. The fact that this is all about true events attests to the absurdity of it all. Dateline did a masterful job telling us all about Pam and the Farias. Excellent, high quality podcast. This completely revived my interest in Dateline.
I watched the mini series and then the 48 hours show and Rene Zellweger (sp) did an outstanding performance as Pam. I love how Keith Morrison tells the story, his voice is always expressive and some how calming. If you haven’t followed the Pam story, start with the mini series because you will be hooked.
I listened to The Thing About Pam when it was first released. I’m ashamed. I always assumed victims were considered when making these true crime podcasts. Imagine my disgust when I saw an interview with Pam’s victim’s child. She has asked you not to turn her mother’s murder info entertainment. You chose to re-victimize her. Shame on you. Shame on Renee for not doing her research and speaking to a victims family before taking part and playing a role that makes a woman’s murder look like a joke.
