This podcast has been great for helping me navigate the overwhelming amount of information in the fly fishing world and gets me fired out to fish every time. The listener questions are always fun to listen to and I find the podcast nice and relaxing.

I’ve been listening to this podcast weekly for about two years, and the content is great. Tom Rosenbauer is a wealth of fly-fishing knowledge, and he gets a lot of great guests on the show for interviews. The “Fly Box” portion of the show where Tom answers questions or responds to comments or tips is always worth hearing, even if the topic for the guest’s interview isn’t something that interests me too much.

My biggest complaint, and the sole reason that this podcast gets 3 out of 5 stars instead of 5 out of 5, is the LOUSY, NON-EXISTENT PRODUCTION.

Probably once every two or three episodes there is a production/editing hiccup (usually long periods of dead air, background noise, or other gaffs that do not appear in most podcasts), and at least a couple of times (most recently in the episode released in the week of August 19, 2024) there have been instances where the interview segment was played at several times the speed of the Fly Box segment.

On these occasions, I was very disappointed to find that the voices of Tom and his interviewee were moving so unnaturally fast that I could not comprehend them, even if I used the tool on Apple Podcasts that slows down the playback. It made those interview segments unlistenable. I thought that perhaps, after a day or two after the release of the episode, someone at Orvis would notice this, but the sped-up version remains.

I have noticed errors like these in the podcast from my first days of listening to it all the way through this week, and because of the great content, I have let it pass without comment. I finally got fed up this week. This is a podcast that is endorsed by Orvis, the leading company in the fly-fishing industry, and hosted by Tom Rosenbauer, today’s champion of fly-fishing.

Orvis should hire an actual professional engineer and producer for this podcast; there is no question that the company should be able to afford it. If the production on this podcast continues to suffer as it has, I am going to be deterred from listening and my opinion of Orvis in general will diminish. I don’t think I am alone in this. Please get this problem fixed and save an otherwise great podcast from sounding like amateurs produced it.
