In 2011, the body of a woman was discovered in a California vineyard. The scene was utterly surreal. Disturbing, yet eerily clean. It was unlike anything investigators had encountered before. The killer had seemingly gone to extraordinary lengths to make sure the victim couldn’t be identified. And yet, they had left her somewhere she was certain to be found.
For more than a decade, she was known only as Jane Doe. Then detectives finally got a name: Ada. But identifying her didn’t solve the mystery. It opened an entirely new one.
Through years of reporting, and the discovery of unusual newspaper columns and deeply personal writings Ada left behind, a portrait emerges of a brilliant, complicated woman. The more her life comes into focus, the stranger her already bizarre murder becomes.

I found this entire series to be very well done. A lot of shows generate more content/episodes by regurgitating the same sound bites and info that you have heard on previous episodes to the point that the new content in an “episode” is essentially zero. I felt like the show had the perfect amount of “flash-back” type information that you could keep all the characters and people straight but generally focused on giving nothing but new content on each episode. I also appreciate that the Host actually had a great voice this genre; she didn’t even have to say it I would’ve guessed that she was television true crime reporter.

Olivia LaVoice is an excellent reporter and has produced a gripping, well written pod that’s thoroughly investigated combined with a unique sensitivity toward the subjects and their families. The documentary on HBO is terrific too. Highly recommend!

This podcast is everything!
I first watched the documentary and fell down a rabbit hole of obsession. This podcast is even better than the documentary bc it shares way more details etc. Olivia is SO good at pulling the listener in and getting us 100% invested in the case. I’m positive this is not the end and she will discover what happened to Bailey and James. Thanks to all of your hard work Olivia! So sorry to all of the people involved, it really is a heartbreaking story.

It’s probably true that the series could have been cut down to fewer episodes, but I’m glad it wasn’t. I enjoyed hearing the thoughts and feelings of the victims’ families at each stage of the investigation. My heart goes out to them. I do agree with the other listeners about the length and frequency of the ads.

"As a reporter at news 17..." take a shot every time you hear a reference to Olivia's intrepid news career in this podcast. While the story itself is interesting, unfortunately it feels like Olivia tries making herself the main character too often throughout. And she's clearly working on her "national newscaster broadcast voice" and it gets a little old. That said, the reporting is thorough and the story is interesting, even while a good editor could help tighten up the story and give it even more impact.

I understand having to sit through commercials for free content, name of the game. These commercials take a 1/3 of the time at least in every episode…and they aren’t long episodes. Leading competitors have half the time in commercials and double the content in episodes. If you value your time but don’t wanna pay for “no ad” content don’t bother.
