Sweet Bobby

I’m going to be honest, I questioned the main character a lot because at the beginning I had a bunch of questions I felt she should’ve had, particularly on the Witness Protection like that ‘Bobby’ created. Why did you need to take your? If you’re in witness protection, why do so many people know? Etc. And other questions in general like: Why would you trust someone who doesn’t turn on their camera? Etc. However I also felt like this was an incredible story and I spent 30 minutes being shocked on the big reveal. Once I started listening, I couldn’t stop. I also can empathize with the main character because gaslighting and cat fishing are severe issues in our society. This story has also definitely furthered my interest in psychology due to episodes 3-6. Highly recommend.

I am fascinated by scams—they’re like my special interest. So it’s a given that I wanted this story to wow me as I have heard and read many accounts of different romance scams and they tend to follow the same pattern no matter what. I can say I was thoroughly wowed by the depth of this scam. While it is infuriating to listen to the story unfold knowing what’s to come, that is exactly why scam stories entice people. I feel sick for Kirat and I appreciate her for sharing her story especially in the face of harsh judgement and criticism.

Really enjoyed how this show was written and delivered. I was sucked in during each episode and enjoyed how it was presented. I felt for Kirat as well as everyone involved and felt close to the story. Really wanted to reach out and hug Kirat.

The first episode had me intrigued with mentions of “the catfish ruined Kirat’s life, career, friendships…” But the catfish didn’t directly ruin any of these things, at least from what the podcast shares. Rather, Kirat was deluded and became stressed out by this online catfish relationship that drained her energy. I agree with others that Kirat was insanely gullible. I feel bad for her that she didn’t have more people in her life who actively tried to shut down this nonsense, but I don’t think Kirat is as much of a victim as the first episode portrays.

Host could cut whole episodes if he didn’t insert himself and “when I was making this” stories that aren’t what you’re here to listen. If this was woven into a good story, it could be worth it but this story is the most basic catfish story with no wow moments. It’s unlikely you’ll care for the victim even as you’ll either find her blatant stupidity or her forming a connection with a married man just off putting. Nothing new, nothing wow.

At the beginning they make it sound like his podcast will be kind-blowing, the craziest catfish story with tons of twists and turns. But it’s literally like every episode of MTV catfish but dragged out for 4 hours. It’s ok but nothing groundbreaking for anyone who watched the show.
