Strict Scrutiny - Podcast Rankings and reviews

I’m so happy that I found Strict Scrutiny. It’s one of my favorite overall podcasts and the best law podcast I’ve listened to. A couple of years ago I pored over dozens of Apple Podcast and other podcast distributor catalogs to find even decent law podcasts.

As a civil rights lawyer who no longer practices full time I was eager to stay up with Supreme Court news in light of the conservative takeover. Most other legal podcasts were painfully dry or esoteric or too specialized or long.

Although I found a couple of other podcasts I enjoy, Strict Scrutiny is reliably incisive, relevant, hilarious, and well produced. The cohosts’ personalities and legal areas of expertise are charmingly complementary, and I really love their detailed case analysis interspersed with oral argument clips. And the court culture coverage makes my week.

I’m a lawyer and have been listening to this podcast since I was a law student. I’ve learned so much about the Supreme Court from this podcast! It’s one of my favorite parts of my weekly routine and the hosts are so intelligent, knowledgeable, funny, and relatable. After having mostly male law professors, I also love that the hosts are all women. Thank you for this wonderful resource!!

This podcast is the best thing about Mondays. And it’s not even close. I look forward to listening to this funny, insightful, and educational podcast every week. These three amazing women are the only thing keeping me sane when it comes to the Courts. I’ve been a devoted listener since the beginning. I love that they were purchased by Crooked Media, as I was terrified that they would stop podcasting. Smash that subscribe button, you will not be disappointed. You’ll learn some thing and probably laugh out loud while doing it.

Unparalleled insight on the issues that create the fabric of our nation and culture, with an unapologetically progressive view that centers rights - women, minorities, the poor, etc - as wholly worth understanding and protecting. I listen to a half dozen legal podcasts (non-lawyer but ACS member here) to just make sense of what's going on, but this one always has insights and nuance that is simply missing elsewhere because of the depth these hosts go into.
Also, the way they laugh at themselves and others is so welcome amidst the flotilla of feces out there! Just listened to the listener questions episode that features them reading bad pod reviews and it is hilarious.
Thank you, from this non-lawyer just trying to navigate the morass with most of my hysterical lady rights intact.

As a fellow lady lawyer living in a world where we’re treated like 2nd class citizens, this podcast gives me hope and makes me laugh. I love the sarcasm injected into the deep dive of SCOTUS. Nicknames like Lady Safe Haven and Coach Kavenaugh. Hilarious. Who said lady lawyers can’t be funny? Hatters gonna Hate.

I listened to a couple of episodes in an attempt to become more informed on the USSC’s recent decisions. This podcast is overflowing with sarcasm, inside jokes, and insults of the justices and provides very few facts or legal analysis. I understand that Crooked is a left wing organization, but there is no attempt to discuss facts.

A glaring example is the discussion of the student loan decision. They compared student loans to the Covid PPP loans and failed to mention that PPP was passed by congress and student loan forgiveness was an executive order.

Are the hosts really that ignorant, or are they pretending to be stupid for the show?

I pity the hosts and people that rely on this show for information. They’re wandering the planet confused and disoriented in their own little echo chamber of make believe.
