I have tried many different true crime podcasts and this is by far my favorite one. Peyton and Garrett are extremely respectful to the victims and their families. I love how they give background on the victims and show how they are real people and not just victims of a crime. You can tell that they truly care about each case and they always honor the ones that have passed. Overall anyone that has listened to more than a few can sense that they are really good people with big hearts. I can’t believe anyone could ever say a bad word about these two. Finally, I love how they keep the mystery aspect to it. I personally love mystery and don’t like when podcast reveal everything right off the bat. Peyton is good at setting the scene, describing the people involved, and navigating the timeline until reaching the end which is when she reveals who committed the crime (or if it’s a cold case). They are good at stating their opinions in a respectful way. I recommend this podcast to everyone and wish there was more episodes!

I’ve been a foster parent for YEARS, and this show has been the bonding glue for me and my foster teens to have something to listen to, chat about, and connect on almost immediately! Even after these teens leave my home, we still listen to the episodes each week and discuss them together. Thanks for being the glue I need to reach some kiddos in need, and giving us something to stay connected long after they leave my care. I’ll always listen to any show! ❤️

I have loved MWMH since I started listening. The banter between Payton and Garret is always entertaining but also, you can tell they are such a genuinely happy married couple, which adds a bit of light to the content they cover. The cases are intense sometimes but the way she is able to truly tell their story with so much adoration and respect for the victims and their families makes this podcast second to none. Anyone who loves true crime needs to give it a listen (and subscribe because the bonus episodes are amazing too).

Updated Review:
I still LOVE this podcast and will continue to listen, but had to take a star away because the intros are getting to be a bit too lengthy compared to earlier episodes. I understand that ads keep them going so as the following and podcast grows the ads are bound to increase, but the intro ads have become longer. Garrett’s 10 seconds are becoming 2 minutes. I do like hearing quick bits about their lives, but many episodes aren’t starting the actual story until the 5 minute mark or later.

Original Review:
I am a huge fan of true crime, just like Payton, and have been since I was young. I used to listen to another popular true crime podcast, but the vibes changed and I felt like the podcast was too scripted and the podcasters were inserting too much of their own personal opinions and feelings. This really turned me off and took away from the storytelling to me. I was at a bar and was talking about true crime with my bartender and she told me about Murder with my Husband and the Alison Botha episode in particular so that’s the first episode I listened to and I fell in love with the podcast. I love how Payton tells the story and we get the real-time reaction of Garrett (who is not a true crime fan). Other than the actual story, this doesn’t feel scripted. I really appreciate the story-telling and not being overly emotional or biased, this is just giving the story as it is. Yes there are thoughts her and there, but I don’t feel like Garrett and Payton are inserting their own philosophies and are sticking to the story. I also feel it’s extremely respectful to the victim’s, families, participants, and others affected.

The ads are unbearable!! Excessive!! Wayyyyy too many! I listen to a lot of podcasts and no other podcast devotes such a huge amount of time to ads. It’s way over the line. Absolutely ridiculous! It’s so excessive it makes even minor criticisms of this podcast major. Because with THAT many ads, you better be worth it. But you’re not. You don’t even take the time or make the effort to get 911 calls, interrogation tapes, or interview anyone. You read a written summary, broken up by SO. MANY. ADS!! Payton, you sound uneducated. How did you end up doing a podcast when you can’t pronounce simple words and often just make words up completely? And please let Garrett talk! You snap at him if he dares ask a question or interject an opinion. All you’re doing is reading a previously written summary so why is he even there if he isn’t allowed to interact? Is it WITH your husband, or do you just want to read your book report to the class? Poor Garrett. You’re not kind to him. Also, please spare us the reading of references. We can find them in the notes if interested. Mostly, get over yourself. You’re not all that. You’re reading a script, can’t pronounce words, often get facts wrong, don’t understand the judicial system, and even misrepresent common laws such as HIPAA. You’ve put in no effort except researching online; no interviews, no recordings, nothing. You’re out of your league, acting like this is Dateline or something. Garrett, stick up for yourself. I bet you’re aware that the disproportionate amount of ads and subscription tactics are “scammy.” (A word Payton might use right?) This is like a podcast of sponsors with breaks for a story. My God the devotion to ads is excessive! Little bit of a story, now here’s ANOTHER break for six ads. Most podcasts break once with a few ads, maybe twice with fewer ads in the break. You guys have three, four or more breaks with several ads each break! For a story that’s less than an hour!!! You know the loyalty to sponsors over listeners is a losing business model. Stand up to her childish ego and inability to see outside of right now now now!! And, I pay for three subscriptions, but I will not pay for this podcast. You want more money for one podcast than entire collections cost! You’re doing it all wrong. Pushing the envelope. Taking advantage just as far as you possibly can. It’ll implode. Too much too fast. You know she doesn’t get it. Shortsighted risks that can’t be recouped by even more ads. Take a stand. To her and MIL both.

I appreciate how the topics are handled with respect and care, and that these cases aren’t displayed to us as a spectacle. Having two different opinions is also very nice, and reminds me of how my husband and I tend to react to true crime, with him hating it and me loving the intrigue.

I will say I do have one minor complaint. The transition to ad reads are super harsh and kinda jarring. Might I suggest some kind of transition music? Just so I’m not hearing about a brutal murder and then 2 seconds later I’m getting tonal whiplash hearing about socks or a weight loss app.

Again, not a dealbreaker! Just a friendly criticism.
