Alex Goldman’s earnest approach to solving niche yet relatable listener dilemmas is refreshingly fun. With his signature humor and kindness, Alex makes you genuinely care about everything from measuring butter by weight to driving the mean streets of NYC without shedding a tear. Hyperfixed is the perfect bite-sized podcast for diving into life’s weird problems.

I was super bummed when “Reply All” ended, since then I’ve been hoping Alex would start a new podcast. I admit, I googled what he was up to a few times hoping there was something I could support. I had only found substack, until “Reply All” showed a new episode in my library, and it was a sample of “HyperFixed.” You never know what a new project might be like, and sometimes excitement gets me hyped up then let down, but I have not been let down at all. This gives me “Heavyweight” vibes, which is a compliment. Of course, it’s different, if you were/are a Heavyweight listener, Alex is less sarcastic/dry compared to Jonathan; Alex feels more genuine, it seems he cares to help, and isn’t joking around so much. With that said I still find humor and light in Hyperfixed thus far and am really excited to see where this podcast goes. 10/10 would recommend.

The human interest element combined with the added historical context is a winning formula for these stories and problems and solutions/explanations. Hyperfixed fills a genre void of podcasting I didn’t know how to articulate before.

I really wanted to like this as I’m a huge Alex fan and want him to succeed. But these shows are just not interesting. I was hoping for something like super tech support or yes/yes/no, but instead it’s a show about the very most banal and uninteresting questions/problems imaginable. It just doesn’t have the magic of Reply All. Maybe we need PJ to come back, as his show sometimes suffers from the same problem?
