I am so glad I found this podcast. I too grew up with a mentally ill parent. Obviously very different experience than Danny’s, but still incredibly relatable and makes me feel so seen. Thank you for being so vulnerable and I appreciate the candidness of everyone involved, especially Sandy and Darren. I have told everyone I know who listens to podcasts and am now pestering MY best friend I grew up with to do a podcast about my mother! I have a feeling it would not be nearly as entertaining as this podcast but a girl can try ;). Thank you again xoxo

I can see why Danny and Darren make such great friends for each other—the mutual care is palpable. It’s also incredibly important for navigating such tender territories. The podcast gives listeners a glimpse into a world of secrets and shame and survival that would normally remain behind the closed doors of propriety. I so respect Danny for his willingness to share his vulnerability with us all so that we too can grow in compassion for ourselves and the traumas we’ve experienced. First rate production value too.

I just listened to the nose job episode. My empathy for Danny is now equal to my annoyance with him. I’m so torn. I can tell how hard he’s working to NOT become his father and to understand his own behavior however….
His insistence that Richard did not have a nose job was ridiculous. The fact is, no one really knows. And Sandy believed he DID have one. But Danny had to keep badgering her until poor Sandy agreed with him. I may be overly dramatic but I feel like Sandy is being bullied by her son after years of being bullied by her crazy husband. I hope Danny can learn from this.
Also, why isn’t Danny’s brother a guest?

Thoroughly enjoying this podcast. I eagerly devour each one as them come out. I have trauma (who doesn’t? ;) and don’t know how I’d process it on a public platform like this. So I applaud Danny for doing it. I agree with other reviewers that Sandy shouldn’t be badgered as much. It’s hard to know where the line is with things like this and I think some of that might be better done in a therapist’s office. Everyone abused by the narcissist deserves healing and I wish that upon all of you affected by Richard.
