Martin DiCaro’s newest project arrives at just the right time, at a moment where America has been witness to unprecedented moments and events of late, but the reactions to which, along with the divisions it has created, are not altogether surprising, if one bothers to study and understand the nation’s history.

Without reading and understanding our history as researched and presented by real historians, it is impossible to truly understand the depth and nuances of historic events and how they compare with today’s. This is where a podcasts like HAIH comes in, as it is hosted by someone who has spent a lot of time doing just that. In a world dominated by social media, where people read and then thoughtlessly share memes designed to score cheap political points but often lacking in context and filled with half-truths, if any truths, it is more important than ever to get a well-researched perspective on world events. Although he could likely spend hours providing such perspective, Martin manages to squeeze it into a relatively short podcast. A must listen for anyone who is craving a sane, thoughtful analysis amid a world of nonsense masquerading as much.

I’ve discovered this podcast in the last month and am listening to many earlier recordings. These are intelligent discussions on a variety of current and historical issues with well-informed and interesting guests. It feels very NPR-ish but that’s okay. Most last around 30 minutes so they’re very succinct and don’t go overboard.

Martin,

Thank you for your podcast. It is quite informative and I listen to many of the episodes.

Some feedback: occasionally you criticize other people, which is fine, but sometimes it isn’t backed up. Recently you had a negative comment about Glenn Beck with no specifics about what he said and why you objected to it. I have listened to some of his episodes and found nothing to object to. I’m open to valid criticism that is backed up with facts.

Nonetheless your material is quite good. I like the fact that you are willing to cover lesser known facts about people such as Martin Luther King’s communist tendencies.
