This is an intelligent, thoughtful and honest education in current events backed up with historical fact and insight. Anne Applebaum’s voice is clear and devoid of affect, making her very easy to listen to and understandable. I am a discerning and tough audience and I love this show.

I’ve been following Anne Applebaum for some time. As someone who studied propaganda and the Soviet Union and spent time in post-communist Poland, I’ve appreciated her sharp and insightful writing about developments in the region. I never thought that authoritarian red flags would be relevant to the U.S. but they are. We can learn from history and the experience of other nations if we’re open to the lessons.

This is a really compelling show, hosted by Anne Applebaum (one of my all time favorite historians and writers) and Peter Pomerantsev from Johns Hopkins. It’s so well researched and produced and gives a good historical perspective while shining a light on what is happening today. So many ways in which the US slides toward authoritairanism both now and in the past.
