Darkness Prevails is truly one of the best narrators and is actually the first one I had ever listened to. This show dedicated to camping horror is genius. I can never get enough of camping/forest horror so you can imagine my excitement about this show. The stories are some of the creepiest I’ve heard yet and I look forward to more and more from DP.

Pretty much all the eerie cast podcasts are the same. The narrator is great. Great pace, great voice, great delivery. There are minor editing issues in most episodes, like looped audio, but other than that the structure and editing are great. However, the story selection is not great. My main issue is that these stories are allegedly true, but none of them are written like first hand testimonies. They’re all written like high school level fiction. Most of the stories are insanely unbelievable, but aren’t good enough to be entertaining.
Updated: no longer following or listening. Every episode includes a very obviously made-up story involving some boring and overdone iteration of what people think a skinwalker is. I was only listening because of darkness prevails, but the new narrators voice and style does not match the theme of the show at all. It was ok while it lasted.

I love Unexplained Encounters, and Tales from The Break Room, so I thought I’d give this new Darkness Prevails endeavor a go. I HATE the new voice. I am a trucker; I listen to podcasts while I drive. The average large truck noise level inside is 85 Db, the same as running a gas lawn mower. The new voice is too soft and lugubrious for me to hear it, even with bone-conduction sound. Interesting content, but what good is it if you can’t hear it (or if the low droning sound puts one to sleep)?
