Fonz Morris says the best products are constantly being refined
In Design, refinement is constant. As you move through the process, you’re sharpening your understanding of the problem and subsequently the solutions you devise. Throughout his time at companies like MyArtistDNA, Coursera, and now at Netflix as Lead Product Designer for Global Conversion, Fonz Morris brings a mindset of constant improvement to his work. He says that teams that collaborate throughout the entire process are much more likely to put themselves in the customer’s shoes and start iterating from the very beginning. He also dispels the misconception that data can limit creativity, instead he believes that it allows teams to gauge success in service of refinement.

Bunny Williams on Design Past and Present
Few decorators have had the longevity or the impact of Bunny Williams. Ever since her first job at the legendary firm of Parish Hadley, she has been creating rooms that meld beauty with comfort and a sense of welcome. Renowned as a gardener as well as a designer, she was in the vanguard of shaping today’s indoor/outdoor lifestyle. An author and a furniture designer, she has also promoted the careers of many other designers through her work with the Kips Bay Showhouse. In her first podcast appearance, Bunny discusses the importance of understanding the business side of our creative industry, whether instinct or training is more important, the value and danger of Instagram and Pinterest, why antiques still matter, and how despite changes in styles and trends, the role of the designer remains constant—to bring homes to life and help their clients to live a beautiful life. Evan English on the future of Design
Throughout the course of this series, we’ve examined the various stages of the design lifecycle from research to the brief, divergent exploration to prototyping and “The Review” all the way through to shipping and then going deeper in refining what we’ve created. One thing that’s been constant throughout is that teams are most successful when they’re deeply collaborative and inclusive. VP of Product Design & Research at American Express Evan English is on the frontlines of establishing and maturing Design at the corporate level. Evan believes that Design maturity means having an organizational vision for how design integrates into the various aspects of your business and how the broader organization perceives and embraces design. She encourages design leaders to create ways to measure maturity and evolution and celebrate the progress along the way.
